About Us
The Annapolis Anchor was founded by Jesse Barron of Barron Holdings, LLC. Jesse is an Annapolis resident and a real estate agent affiliated with Keats & Co. Real Estate, LLC. The blog was originally an individual endeavor of Jesse and titled “Annapolis Homes and Happenings.”
He started the blog in 2008 using TypePad but took a break after having surgery. Jesse then started fresh in 2009 and re-launched it using the popular WordPress platform. Although the name has changed, he decided to stick with sweethomeannapolis.com, feeling it was catchy and easy for anyone who knows the song “Sweet Home Alabama” to remember.
As readership continued to grow, Jesse reached out through the blog asking if there were any readers interested in contributing. Mary Richert, a fellow Annapolitan and freelance writer responded and is now regularly contributing content.
The Annapolis Anchor has evolved from a source for real estate information and the personal thoughts of Jesse Barron into an aggregator of “everything Annapolis.” It grew to almost 200 posts in the first two months alone. That is a lot of posts when compared to the average blog.
While The Annapolis Anchor does not “break” many stories like journalists do, we like to think of it as a filter to the overwhelming wave of information hitting folks every day. On any given day there is a ton of content out there that relates to each of our lives. The goal of the contributors is to bring the most relevant (at least in their opinion) things to the attention of readers.
Over time we started forming relationships with other area bloggers. We are now happy to call ourselves friends of the folks behind Eye on Annapolis and Annapolis Capital Punishment. You may have noticed that we feature their headlines on The Annapolis Anchor and they do the same with ours. We also link to, publish the headlines of and play close attention to The Arundel Muckraker.
We hope that you consider The Annapolis Anchor to be an asset and welcome your participation in the comments section. We also invite you to contact us with any scoops you may have – whether it be about local news or events.
Thank you for reading The Annapolis Anchor!
