New Whole Foods Opened Yesterday

whole-foodsThe new Whole Foods in Annapolis Towne Centre at Parole opened yesterday to much fanfare.

The 56,000 square foot store is the largest on the East Coast.  Original plans called for it to be an even bigger 70,000 SF before they were scaled back.

At 10 AM, when the store opened, 400 shoppers were ready with their carts.  The lines were 10 deep at the pizza bar, burger bar and sushi bar at noon.

In these recessionary times, Whole Foods is adapting to the changing consumer.  Its store brand, called 365, is now featured at eye-level on sheves.

Meanwhile, the prepared foods section (where you can pick up a dinner that is alreade made) is three times larger than the old location in the Harbor Center.

This is getting a little bit more subjective, but I much rather the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has more sparkle, and some great functions like ‘Mixview’ which let you speedily see related cds, tracks, or other users related to what you’re hearing. Clicking on one of them will center on that item, and an additional set of “neighbors” will come into view, permitting you to navigate around exploring by related artists, tunes, or users. By the way, the Zune “Social” can be fantastic fun, letting you discover others with shared preferences and getting friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist produced depending on an combinations of what all your friends are hearing, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will probably be relieved to learn you are able to prevent the public from seeing your personal listening routines should you so pick.
