Punk’s Backyard Grill Taste Test
Today, I just had to step out and enjoy the awesome spring weather we’re having, and I walked down to Punk’s Backyard Grill, which just opened at the Annapolis mall. Punk’s is a brand new restaurant, the first of its kind, and according to the web site, they hope to expand around the area and eventually go nationwide. But for now, there is only one, and it happens to be just down the road. Lucky me!
The atmosphere is a little like Noodles and Company — young and hip; quick, but definitely a step or two up from fast food — and the addition of a very high ceiling and lots of windows makes you feel like you’re sitting at a backyard barbecue even when you’re inside.
Thanks to this gorgeous weather, I was able to sit outside and enjoy my sugar free Boylan Black Cherry soda while I waited for my Homemade Veggie Burger. I was going to take a picture of it for you, but it looked and tasted so good I forgot about the photos until it was nearly gone!
I usually don’t order veggie burgers because most places just have the same frozen and reheated patties you can buy in the grocery store’s freezer section, but the homemade factor made the difference for me today. You can actually taste the black beans and peppers in this burger, as opposed to the usual generic veggie mash. But keep in mind that your meal doesn’t automatically come with fries or a side. The bright side there is that you’re less tempted to overeat when you’re plate’s not piled high with entirely too much food. I thought the portion was perfect for lunch, but if you’re feeling extra hungry, you’ll want to look into their sides, like the White Cheddar Macaroni and Cheese or the Roasted Corn and Black Bean Salad. I also thought hard about getting the Baby Spinach Gazebo Salad, but I guess I’ll just have to go back and try that one later. Oh darn, huh?

Apple now has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hampered by the inability to store locally on your iPod, and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass’ favor.

I’ll gear this review to 2 types of people: current Zune owners who are considering an upgrade, and people trying to decide between a Zune and an iPod. (There are other players worth considering out there, like the Sony Walkman X, but I hope this gives you enough info to make an informed decision of the Zune vs players other than the iPod line as well.)

What I want is a camera that I plug into the USB port, it shows up as a drive, I drag/drop the video to my desktop, and then I can double-click and play the video, or email it and it will play. Astonishingly, the Flip can’t do this simple task. The video encoding on Windows won’t play without installing a codec. You can’t just email the vids to your friends – you first have to run them through an app to change to a format that can be played on other PCs (and this loses resolution).
